About

The working hero is he or she who volunteers to help those who need help.

George I of the American Bushes introduced the nation to a “thousand points of light”.  This was a weak campaign with a few photo opps and a few awards being handed out.  Nothing really came of it. It has long been suspected that this was just an attempt to distract the citizens of his country from the government’s lack of response to the needs of it’s poor and disabled.   Had he been serious, he would have called for a billion points of light, started a true energetic campaign of volunteerism, and, as a good faith gesture, fairly taxed his oil buddies. But he was not. When a politician talks about volunteerism, it’s really about protecting his cronies’ wallets.

But old George was right in one way.  Volunteerism beats the tired, old government anyway that you measure it.

Since the Right and their Tea Baggers are getting their panties in a wad over the socialist boogey man, we need heroes now more than ever.  We need more than Bush-esque lip service about volunteerism.  We wouldn’t need the government for help if everybody actually took a couple of hours and a couple dollars a week and helped those who can’t help themselves.  We need a true army of volunteers because the guys in DC are too busy taking care of each other to worry about us.

These are articles about that.   Be revolutionary. Be a hero. Be a volunteer.
